Re: Optimization?

Is there a debugger/monitor program I can run on my end to figure out what's causing all the trouble? There is! It might be a little tricky, but if you have programming experience, it might not be too bad! Have you ever used a profiler before? If you'd be willing to give it a shot, I can walk you t...

is it better now? or should i make some pictures? Much better! I'll log some tickets in our issue tracking system, and I'll aim to update this thread as I work through them. I appreciate your patience and help in testing. Try not to worry too much, and remember - if you start getting frustrated, ta...

Re: Silly bugs, silly tutorials, silly feedback and EVERYTHING oh God i want to shoot someone.

Hi, Lina. Thanks for giving Outer Colony a shot. If the game's stressing you out too hard and you're not enjoying testing it, I'd say to put it down and don't worry. I appreciate the work testers do, but it's a volunteer post. If it's really unpleasant, don't do it. Testing a game that's in developm...

Re: Optimization?

No problem, glad to help. And I've got some coding experience, nothing too concrete or in-depth, but I know the basic of C++, Python, and VBasic. That's solid! I love Visual Basic. My first software job was converting legacy VB6 insurance systems to VB.NET, and it was actually pretty fun, in some w...

Re: Optimization?

Storage: SanDisk SSD PLUS 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDA-240G-G25 Oh man, I love the SSD. And Outer Colony loves it, too! Load times can get a bit crunchy with huge worlds, but this is the kind of hardware that makes playing with them feasible. I borderline needed ...

Re: Optimization?

I've been looking into this for a while, and Torvus texted me to let me know he was running into the same issue, which he hadn't seen until recently. This makes me almost sure that it's related to the gravity / physics changes I've made recently, which are covered on the TIGSource forums post, here ...

Re: Optimization?

Alright, let's see if we can figure this out. My first order of business was to try to reproduce the stuttering from scratch, so I created a totally new, micro world, landed on it, and played for a few minutes. I did the normal starting-out things, setting up shelters, deploying machinery, digging a...

Re: Optimization?

Most intriguing. Something interesting is definitely happening here, and I'm nigh certain that the answer will reveal some kind of flaw in the engine. Afraid it's not that easy. I've had it set to 8gb since starting it, and I did restart it afterwards, so it was authorized to use that much ram. Righ...

Re: Optimization?

As a quick follow-up, a new version (0.5.47) is now live, and it should correct the issue described here, assuming it was being caused by the memory mode. I've removed support for the 2.6GB, and the new update should force users to move up to a 4096MB minimum. Forum user Torvus actually encountered ...

Re: Optimization?

I've been trying my best to give this demo a chance, but my 6600K and 16gb of memory and GTX 970 can't even begin to make this work. The game starts to stutter and freeze within minutes, and within an hour of playing it spends half of its time hanging and freezing. This is on a micro world as well....
